I’ve wanted to learn how to knit for a long time, just because one, I just need to know everything, and two, I’ve always thought it’s one of those things I should know just in case. I don’t know why I think that, but who knows? Maybe it’ll save my life someday. Maybe someday I’ll have to knit some kind of life raft using only two sticks, a few ten hours, and some yarn that some sharks just so happen to have with them.

Or maybe I just wanted to learn how to knit just to say I can.

Anyhow, I’ve been wanting a Ravenclaw scarf for a while now, and even though I don’t feel like I would theoretically belong in this house, I feel that it’s a novel way to personalize your look with a bit of retardedity fandom while still coordinating rather nicely. Still, I kept thinking to myself, “Dang, $20 dollars for a bunch of yarn is a lot of money,” so ultimately, I decided I could make it myself.

Duuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrr, I’m not a dork I swear.

As you can see, the scarf is not very thick, nor is it very long, but at least it’s SOMETHING. I wasn’t kidding with the title of this post, after all. Knitting is boring as shit, it takes a really long time (especially if you’re a beginner), and it hurts your hand. I’m lucky that I even got this far. After about the third segment, I wanted to stab myself in the eyes with the knitting needles. Seriuosly, I should have just spent the damn $20 on the scarf made in two seconds by a cold, calculating machine that render human craftsmanship obsolete. I’d like to think that my time spent on this project is worth more than twenty freaking bucks.

I guess it’s not all bad, though. After I got used to it, I’d kind of forget I was even doing it while watching episodes of Columbo. I’m also a bit proud of myself to have gotten that far into completion despite wanting to give up and messing up several stitches in the beginning. I don’t know about making long, tedious projects like scarves and blankets, but I can see myself revisiting this hobby—just, not for a while—and when I do, I’ll probably do a hat or something ready-to-wear.

In the end, it’s just another weapon in my crafting arsenal. Huzzah!
