Out of all the things on my list, this was probably the scariest one for me, even more than bungee jumping. Everyone else was scared for me, as well, but I got up early, got some balls, and went for it. And it felt good.

Two days after Christmas, I rode my shiny, new bike 12 miles from my apartment in Placentia, California (next to Anaheim, CA) to my place of employment in Cerritos, California. Now, I know you’re thinking, “12 miles…that isn’t that much!” Yes, I know it’s no Century ride, but I consider this an accomplishment considering I did it by myself with no patrols, on an open road, through a pretty busy route. It took me about an hour, which is pretty slow still, but that’s also counting the time I took to securely cross intersections using the guided crosswalks, lol. Yeah, I know I’m still kind of chicken to have taken the sidewalk a chunk of the way, but the route I took rarely had a bike lane and was FULL OF TRUCKS. Yeesh.

Picture time!

Me, at Point B, cleaned up and at work in the photo room, where I stored my bike.

Riding bikes is so exhilirating and fun, and taking it to work makes me feel amazing and pumped for the rest of the day, but I don’t know how often I’ll be doing this in the future. I want to do it fairly regularly because I like the concept of exercising to a destination, but not only do I not want to get hit by cars, the roads are also in poor condition half the time, much of the surrounding area is industrial, and I also passed a Home Depot with Mexican day laborers hanging out in front of it, wolf-whistling and yelling Spanish at me….and that kinda creeped me out a bunch. Anyway, if I ever do it again, I’m definitely taking a different route, even though it will take me longer. But yeah, after this, bungee jumping will be cake! XD
