101/1001 - #33 Completed: Make a pie from scratch.
I love pies. In fact, who doesn’t love pies? It’s un-American NOT to love pies. Okay, so, I guess the French perhaps? Oh, and terrorists. I bet terrorists hate pies.
ANYWAY…naturally, I’ve always wanted to make them from scratch, so I can learn to get them just the way I want them (and how Blaine wants them). This was never part of my motivations before, but lately I’ve been more conscious about eating processed foods, so making a pie without preservatives, trans fats, high fructose corn syrup and all that other BS is an added bonus. This activity was actually crossed off my list a while ago, as I attempted my first pie during this past strawberry season when they were 99 cents/lb. I have since then made a pecan pie and a chocolate silk pie. I didn’t take pictures of the pecan pie because I was too excited to eat it…and pecans are kind of ugly anyway.
Here’s my strawberry pie.

And here’s my most recent attempt in the form of a chocolate silk pie. I’m pretty proud of this one, as I made a conscious effort to make it MOSTLY organic, including the whipped cream. I think the only officially non-organic ingredient was the Ghirardelli chocolate bars I used for the filling. Don’t get me wrong, though, this pie is still horrible for you, haha.

Yay PIE!!!
